Don Julio's Year of the Horse Special Edition called for a visual language worthy of one of the most revered animals in Chinese mythology a creature of power, freedom and unstoppable momentum.

ThePlasticStudio collaborated with Munich-based AixSponza studio to bring the campaign's hero material to life, contributing the fabric simulations that form the emotional and visual core of the piece.

The fabric motion was built entirely within SideFX Houdini using Vellum — a constraint-based solver that handles cloth with the physical accuracy that such a richly patterned textile demands. Every fold, billow and collapse was computed from the ground up, allowing the fabric to breathe and move with genuine weight.

What makes this simulation technically distinct is the approach to surface texture. Rather than relying on a photographic texture map, the fabric's intricate woven surface was reconstructed using millions of individual hair strands. Each strand is positioned and oriented using UV coordinate tessellation, so the weave pattern follows the cloth's deformation precisely — it stretches and compresses in unison with every fold. Stray fibers were introduced on top of the primary strand layer, catching the light and adding the micro-level irregularity that gives woven textiles their characteristic warmth and depth.

The result is a material that exists at the boundary between the physically real and the digitally synthesised — indistinguishable in close-up, yet technically a construction of pure simulation data. It was a fitting challenge for a bottle that celebrates a symbol of transformation and raw energy.

All simulations were developed in SideFX Houdini and rendered in Karma
